Metabolic Weight Loss Our patients using our Metabolic Weight Management system have reported great success. Often I am asked, "What is the psychology of weight loss, and how can I apply it to my daily life." First and foremost, define your weight loss goal. If you have 20 lbs or less to lose, it can be helpful to set a date for reaching your goal. For example, if you use a 1,500 calorie a day program you can loss 1-3 lbs per week. If you are taking a trip one month from now you can set a reasonable goal and your trip can give you the incentive to stick to your diet. Weight loss mantras: If you find yourself hungry at 10 or 11 pm after having a good dinner, develop a personal message to yourself. Make this a simple message such as my goal is to become more cardiovascularly fit and lose weight, thus I can resist this temptation. Also, having a very small snack consisting of high proteins will stop this craving. Weight loss stumbling blocks: Many people eat when they are not feeling hungry. They eat when they are feeling lonely, bored and angry. Unfortunately this is how food can become almost a "drug" or an addictive substance. There is a temporary feeling of being physically full, however, this quickly leaves. This is when the buddy system is important. Many of our patients have found that if one or two family members are utilizing the Metabolic Weight Management system, they are more successful in reaching their goal. Damage control: Often we all find ourselves with a sudden urge for our favorite food. There are several ways to handle this. You may portion your favorite food noting how many grams of carbohydrate and calories that food has. The portion control will allow you to take control of your dietary intake. Remember after you have eaten this, stop and proceed on with a different activity. It usually takes about 10-20 minutes for the brain to make the connection that you are full. Counting grams of carbohydrate is crucial to weight loss. Depending on your BMI, you will want to gear your diet accordingly. Feel free to call our office with your current weight and we can help access your BMI. There are numerous booklets available on carbohydrate intake. Our Metabolic Weight Management system is a comprehensive approach to weight loss, dealing with the psychological and physiological causes of weight gain. Often in our female patients, the weight can be reduced when their endocrine status returns to normal. Successful weight loss requires a sensible approach, and when you have accomplished this, you need to congratulate yourself for losing the weight. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact our office. |
